Anyways, no one is here for my political commentary. My belief in humanity has been leveled to ground floor over the past couple years. Then again, watching the news nowadays makes me wonder. I don’t like how it turns people into trash. I don’t really like apocalypse novels or even really post-apocalypse novels. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this when I picked it up for book club. And as they flee, both boys are starting to realize that they may have more than just friendship on the mind, but will they survive long enough to tell each other? After danger encroaches on their sanctuary, both boys flee south in search of civilization and safety. This new world is crazy and if it has taught them anything it is to fear what desperate people do. A super flu has killed off over half of the world’s population, including everyone both boys have ever loved. When Andrew stumbles into Jamie’s cabin, he’s injured, half-starved, and has nothing less to lose. “When he kisses me, my chest feels lighter again, like he’s taking on some of my sorrow but passing on some of his love.”
